Lotions are new age, light moisturizers. Many have no idea about lotions and all they understand about a lotion is body lotion which we particularly use in winters. Most of the lotions are semi-liquid, kinds of light cream, or thick milk. Lotions are love for me. There’s no month in a year that is not appropriate for lotions.
What is Lotion?
Lotions are light textured creamy-milky lotions for the face, not a body lotion neither body butter nor moisturizer. These are not highly-priced like eye creams even basic creams. You can get a lot of quantities at a good price.
What’s the Different between Lotions and Creams or Moisturizers?
Lotions have contents more water than moisturizers or creams. And that’s the main difference. You’re thinking duh, a little more water and a new type of product? Calm down ladies, there are reasons. Lotions penetrate deeper than cream and provide necessary hydration. Not only that it also leaves a thin layer on the skin and makes it shiny. I am currently using Innisfree Blueberry Lotion and I love it.
Other hand, Moisturizers are thicker consistency meant for protecting the hydration of the skin rather than providing. Not saying that it does not bring any value to the skin but mainly it protects the hydration. Oil concentration is higher in cream than in a lotion. A good moisturizer is a necessity for winter and winter countries.
Benefits of Lotions?
As Lotions are light they are easy to apply, perfect for each skin type including dry and oily skin.
Moisture
If you think you need more moisture, does not matter how much good cream you use your skin becomes dry within a few hours then it’s time to use Lotions. I’m not saying lotions are more moisturizing than moisturizers. Moisturizers are rich but people forget easily that if a product is very thick that will not penetrate through the skin. That will just sit on the top of the skin a protect the outside of the outer layer. Lotions can go deeper into the skin than cream and rehydrate it. Use Innisfree green tea lotion after Green tea Toner and then tell me if your skin is feeling dry or not. I never used this much moisturizing/hydrating toner and lotion in my life. They are rich in amino acids and will provide deep hydration to the skin.
Easy Application
Because of the semi-watery texture lotions are easy to spread on the face and neck. And by easy application, I meant for oily/dry skin type too. You don’t have to struggle at all, your finger will slide on your skin and the product will get absorbed within a minute. Another favorite is COSRX Birch Sap Lotion. This is also non-greasy for every skin, milky-light moisturizing lotion.
Absorption
Lotions are light milky textured that’s why they just don’t get absorbed quickly but deeper than creams. IF you’re dry skin and are under the misconception, that richer texture is better then at least try lotion for once in your life. Innisfree green tea lotion & COSRX Birch Sap Lotion both are very moisturizing. But if you have acne use Innisfree and for Acne
Smooth and Light Feeling
Lotions feel so smooth on the skin. I don’t know why because the products I’ve mentioned don’t have Silicons in them. Modern creams are also very smooth, but not all of them. Most of them are greasy and oily skin people generally dislike using creams. But lotions are so light cream that they are perfect for oily skin types too. I’m currently using Innisfree Blueberry Lotion (Could not find it on Amazon). This lotion is very smooth, and light, most importantly it will leave your skin shiny.
What Should I Use, Lotion or Moisturizer?
If your skin type is not Normal (is Oily/Dry) then use lotion instead of cream.
Reason
- Dry Skin: You need deep moisture. Heavy moisturizers are good for protecting your skin and help to not lose the hydration of your skin. But if your skin is not even hydrated then what will it do? So first it’s important to provide hydration. Then if you feel like it (If it’s winter season or winter country) lock it with a moisturizer. My favorite hydration ingredient is green tea. For dry skin use, Green tea Toner, then follow with Innisfree green tea lotion. Then if you want, lock it with Innisfree Intensive Hydrating Cream (Super Rich Moisturizer) or TONYMOLY The Chok Chok Green Tea Cream (Another Favorite Cream).
- Oily Skin: The biggest mistake of oily skin types is using no type of moisture because they think their skin is already hydrated and using moisturizers will make it more oily. The science behind oily skin is dry skin, nothing else. Your skin secretes oils to keep it moisture because it’s dry inside. All you need is a deep cleansing and light-textured deep hydrating product. Use Green tea Toner after cleansing. I’m not marketing. I’m mentioning the same product because I know how hydrating skin is! Then follow it with any lotion I have mentioned like COSRX Birch Sap Lotion (Better for oily skin). No need to lock it with moisturizers unless it’s winter.
Why Do I Prefer Lotions to Moisturizers?
I live in Kolkata, India. In summer it’s 40°C most of the days, and Summer stays for solid eight months. Most of us (Based on family friends, 80%) don’t use anything in Summer on our face or body. I use face lotion for 2-4 days/week or comparatively on cooler days. If I go outside, I use two layers of any hydrating k-skin/toner and then Sunscreen. In-home I only use toners (Layers depend on necessity). In winter the temperature never goes down below 10°C. I used two layers of lotions and worked perfectly. So the conclusion is that Face lotion is something I can use for the whole year but I can’t even apply a little amount of cream in Summer. If I do, I’ll get sweaty.
Who Should Use Lotions?
Dry skin, Oily Skin, and Summer country people always should prefer Lotions!
Can I use Lotions on Body?
You can. Body lotions are no new in the skincare industry. But if you’re asking about face lotions of course you can use any face product on your skin if you can afford it. Simple. Face products are better, purer, so there’s no problem with them until the money comes.
What Do I need to Use After Lotions?
If it’s not Cold or your skin is not too dry then you don’t have to use a cream, otherwise use a cream. If you’re not exposed to the sun then it’s okay to skin Sunscreen otherwise it’s necessary to sunscreen.
