Cleansing is the most basic step. Those who do not know about skincare, also cleanse their face once or twice a day. Now you have an interest that’s why you are here. Proper cleansing of the face involves two steps. It is called the Double Cleansing Method. The first step is Oil cleansing and the second step is Water cleansing. But there are various types of oil cleansing and water cleansing products. They do work a little bit the same but not exactly. Are you confused about needing a cleansing balm, gel, or milk? Then you have come to the right post. First of all, you need two types of cleanser for the days when you have makeup, sunscreen, or both on your skin.
Type of Facial Cleansers
Some cleansers are more oily than others and some are stronger than others. Picking a suitable for your skin type is necessary. It’s not too hard, it’s also not like the very strict rule. Because does not matter what other website says nowadays any good cleanser is mild. But still, ingredients and brand to the brand make a significant difference. I will give a general idea. But the point is for a brand gel cleanser may be stronger than a cream cleanser. So comparing between brands will make another level of differences. But before that know your skin type.
1. Cleansing Milk
Cleansing milk is really good when you need extra moisture for your skin. These are used in the oil cleansing step but cleansing milk is not oily at all. Consistency is like thick milk or cream, like a lotion. Cleansing milk is used for removing sunscreen, and makeup. But these are very mild and cannot remove makeup very well. So you can use this when your face needs the gentlest cleaning. Use a cotton pad or your palm and fingers to massage the milk on your face to remove your makeup. After the skin feels supple and hydrated. They don’t contain any surfactant so acne-prone and sensitive skin types can also use this.
Skin Type
Dry, Combination, Sensitive, Acne-prone skin type. Andalou Naturals Probiotic Cleansing Milk is my one of favorite cleansing milk. I feel like it leaves my skin softer.
2. Cleansing Balm
Cleansing balms are pure oil-based cleansers. If you’re doing double cleansing, you will only need a cleansing balm. Do not leave the cleansing balm on your face without washing it. The cleansing balm is perfect for meltdown every type of makeup and sunscreens. Massage gently with a dime size of cleansing balm on your face and neck and palm. You may warm that a little before putting on the skin. Then don’t wash it, as it’s oil-based. The best is to wipe it off with a microfiber or soft cotton cloth. Remember cleansing balms are not good for acne-prone skin. You may use it. Because oil cleanses the extra sebum from the skin. But then you need clay or deep cleanser.
Skin Type
Dry skin, Combination, Natural Skin, Sensitive Skin. Then I met You is thick but a really good cleansing balm that melts down the makeup.
3. Cleansing Oil
Cleansing oil is nothing but a mixture of some carrier oil with some essential oils and probably with added emulsifiers so that the blend can meltdown every type of makeup. The texture is like oil. Few in the market are very light and do not feel like heavy oil and can be used by every skin type. But heavy oil is not recommended for oily skin and acne-prone skin. This is remarkably good for removing makeup & mascara. You can use your oil too like coconut oil. If you’re sensitive to coconut oil (I know many does not like coconut oil) you can use other oils like almond or olive. But remember one thing, “oil product is not for oily and acne-prone skin” that’s 100% wrong. Some oils are very strong and if not clear properly in the second step skin may break out. Otherwise, it’s fine. First, do patch tests for the oil you’re going to apply to the face.
Skin Type
Dry, Combination, Normal, Oily & Sensitive Skin. THE FACE SHOP Rice Water and DearKlairs Gentle Black Fresh Cleansing Oil are by far what I have used and liked. The texture of these two is light.
4. Cleansing Cream
Cream cleansers are very common and good for every type of skin. But proper cream cleanser is not what we have used in our childhood. Cream cleansers are supposed to be very light for dry, sensitive skin. They don’t leather very well their textures are not creamy always. You can use this light cleanser in the morning time. It (a good cleanser) does not leave your skin dry or tight. It’s not like very gentle cleansers are not for Oily skin type, because the skin produces more oil when it feels dry. So basically oily skin is dry inside.
Skin Type
Dry, Normal, and Sensitive skin. The Moms Co. Natural Vita Rich (watery) is by far the mildest face wash I have used. I loved it.
5. Cleansing Foam
Foam Cleansers are not foam inside. It can be gel, liquid, or cream. Its formulation and opening cap create foam when the material comes out. It’s milder than normal gel or cream cleanser because a little amount is what you need. But this does deep cleansing because of the inside texture. This contains SLS. I will recommend using a normal type of cleanser because this is no different. Just a fancy outcome!
Skin Type
Oily Skin, Normal and Combination Skin. Paula’s Choice RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser (has Hyaluronic Acid) and Cetaphil Oil-Free Gentle Foaming Cleanser are very gentle and any skin type can use these.
6. Cleansing Gel
Gel cleansers are a transparent gel-like consistency. This can do deep cleansing. It removes excess oil from the skin. Modern formulas included hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid in their facewashes so the skin does not feel dry. Its oil-removing activity is good for acne-prone, oily skin.
Skin Type
Combination, Oily, and Acne-prone Skin. YouthToThePeople Green-Tea Cleanser is so good. It’s mild but still, feels like the skin has been properly cleansed. It has vitamins E, C, and spinach.
7. Bar Soap Cleanser
Don’t be afraid of hearing Bar Soap cleansers. This is not like regular soap. I don’t even use regu; ar soap on my body. Big companies like Dove and Johnsons make skin so dry so I don’t use soaps. But modern soaps that are specifically made for your face will not dry out your face. Yes, they remove extra sebums and cleanse deep. But they are not harsh. These soaps also contain moisturizing ingredients.
Skin Type
Normal, Oily, Combination Skin. Cetaphil Deep Cleansing Bar Soap is good gentler bar soap.
8. Cleansing Wipes
Cleansing wipes are not for daily or general use. These are for carrying in your purse and for emergency usage. When you’re traveling the whole day and you need to clear your face and hands these come in handy. But remember they can remove makeup. As another type of cleanser. It’s obvious though how can you clear your face if it does not even remove the upper layer of product from the skin. So do not use a lot of makeup when you’re traveling. The best is to use red lips during traveling and skin your foundation. Carry your moisturizer tint, mascara, and lipstick. This three can elevate the look instantly. So you can clear your face 2,3 times if you want or need. It will look much fresher than a whole face of makeup that is covered in the dirt.
Skin Type
Every Skin types need this. Cetaphil Face and Body Wipes are gentle enough and can be used for the face and body.
9. Powder Cleanser
Powder cleansers are like powder, dry. You have to use it by mixing it with water. It can form a creamy, foamy, or scrubber type of texture after mixing with water. You can make a thick or thin consistency depending on the water amount. These powder cleansers mainly have a type of clay. The added benefit is they have exfoliated properly because of the fine particles. But this is not enough. You have to follow it with an oil cleansing. Sometimes these are just powder exfoliators. In that case, you need a proper water-based cleanser too. And if you bought a proper powder cleanser you do not need another cleanser.
Skin Type
Combination, Normal, Oily Skin. DHC Face Wash Powder form foaming leather that is perfect for second-step cleansing.
10. Clay Cleanser
Clay Facewashes are for deep cleansing. Present any type of clay can soak extra sebum from the skin. Different Clay masks are Charcoal, Bentonite, Brazilian, Kaolin, Rose, Rhassoul, Fuller’s Earth, French Green, and Zeolite Clay. Different clay has different absorbing property. This type of cleanseres are good for oily and acne-prone skin.
