In the 21st century, there are a thousand types of skincare products. It’s like new items are being invented every month! Those who are new to this and interested are confused about what they need. Especially those like me who do not want to spend a huge amount yet want to get proper products. It’s also difficult for an aesthetician because everybody’s skin is different, but everybody’s satisfaction level and needs are different.
Before jumping on what you need, let’s know the types of facial masks. Because you need to know why you need a particular type not to blindly trust anyone. When you’ll know every type of facial mask and its properties you can make your choice easily.
Facial Masks According to Property
A facial mask has different types of properties unlikely a cleanser (whose job is to cleanse), moisturizer (moisturize the skin), or a Sunscreen (protect from UV rays). Depending on what it does, you need to apply it in a different step of your skincare.
1. Detox & Decongest
Detoxify the skin. These masks clear up clogged, overloaded sebum. They are formulated with clay. There are different types of clay with different absorbing power. When you need a deep cleanse, and clear your pores, you need to use detoxifying masks like clay masks. These masks give your skin a newborn! I’m currently using Innisfree Pore Clearing Clay Masks with Volcanic Cluster. This does not dry out your skin. Your skin will not feel tight at all, I’m enjoying it.
2. Brightening & Radiance
If you need an instant boost to your look use brightening face masks. But at first, I wanna disclose the glow that comes with a mask that does not last long. But if you have to join a pretty this can instantly boost your glow. Instant Shine masks are a lifesaver. Regular use of a good mask can improve dull skin. LAPCOS Pearl Sheet Mask is one of my favorite sheet masks. Keep in mind that brightening masks work differently for every person. If your skin is already healthy you may not see a difference.
3. Moisture & Repair
Oooooh! These are super duper hydrating masks. These provide a flash of hydration to your skin at once. Skin looks very plump like a newborn baby. It looks very natural and feels soft. These are filled with hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and other ingredients. Some are rich in fatty acids and oils. Moisturizing your skin is the most important of all the factors. It will improve skin elasticity, plumpness, and shine. when your skin will plump automatically it will look shinier. Youth To The People Superberry Facial Mask is riched with Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. It will hydrate your skin and leave a soft glow.
Face Masks According to Texture
Moisturizing masks can come in gel or creamy textures. Detoxifying masks can come in powder or creamy textures. You need to use the mask according to its property, not by its texture.
1. Cream Masks
Youth To The People Superberry Facial Mask and Innisfree Pore Clearing Clay Masks with Volcanic Cluster both have a creamy texture. YTTP is not a clay mask. It has antioxidants, and squalene in it and targets hydration of the skin. You can use this type of mask overnight. Because it’s not taking anything from the skin but providing. On the other hand, Innisfree one is the clay mask and absorbs sebum from the skin. Even if it does not dry out the skin you should never leave this type of mask for a long time. Wash it off if it’s 50% dry.
2. Gel Masks
Gel masks are gel-like textured. To be frank, I have used some sleeping masks that I did not like. They are probably appropriate for oily skin to leave for the whole night but did not work for me. Their property is to hydrate the skin but they can’t do that enough. Let me know in the comment if you found some good Gel masks ๐.
3. Powder Masks
Anything can come in powder texture. Collagen masks, clay masks, exfoliating masks, brightening masks, etc. You need to add a little water or rose water, mix it and apply it. Anskin Modeling Collagen Mask is worth a try. You’re getting a huge amount at that price. It has active ingredients and is good as an anti-aging mask. This is not a hydrating mask. This is a Collagen mask that will improve skin elasticity. Means fewer fine lines and wrinkles.
Face Masks According to Application
There are mainly two types of masks. One is a Sheet mask. Other is not. Now, Sheet masks can be various of types. And those are not sheet masks can be peeling, non-peeling, gel type, a powder that forms gelly with water, or powder that gets creamy after mixing with water. As I said before it’s the 21st century and there are a hundred types of a single product.
1. Clay Masks
Clay masks contain natural clay. Clays contain beautifying minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, etc. The combination of detoxifying powers and microbial balancing effects makes clay masks the perfect outcome for oily, blackhead-prone skin that tends to breakouts acne blemishes, or any skin type. Because different clay has a different levels of strength. It’s not like clays are not for dry skin. Many questions have been answered about Clay masks here.
Different Clay masks are Charcoal, Bentonite, Brazilian, Kaolin, Rose, Rhassoul, Fuller’s Earth, French Green, and Zeolite Clay. Strong Clay masks like Bentonite, and French Green clays are good for reducing pores and tightening your skin. Now, remember, do not believe in myths if someone says *any product* can remove the pores. Pores are small holes in your skin. It’s your skin’s anatomy. It can’t be reduced or removed. But Clay masks can detox your pores which reduces the visibility of pores. Rose, Kaolin, and French Green clay are good for sensitive skin and have good anti-inflammatory properties. Rhassoul clay is gentle for the skin and can be used for dry and/or Rosacea skin.
2. Sheet Masks
Sheet Masks are Cotton, Microfiber, Coconut Pulp or Cellulose, Gel, and Paper masks for the face. These masks are very light and soaked in Toner, Serum, or lotion-like products. Sheet Mask textures can be various. Toner, Serum, and Lotion type. Many questions have been answered about Sheet masks here. There are eight different types of sheet masks! Read here!
5. Peel-Off Masks
I don’t know, but peel-off masks are a kinda satisfaction, aren’t they? Peel-off masks come in creamy-gelly type texture. You need to apply it with a spatula. When it gets dry it gets hard. Or semi-hard. From the top of your forehead, you need to remove the mask. It comes off as a single unit like a sheet mask. Vajacial Jelly Mask is for Bikini line and underarm for brightening purposes. It makes my skin soft. Innisfree Volcanic Clay has the Peel-off version you may try for your face.
Why do You Need to Use Facial Masks?
Facial masks give you a spa-like experience with long-lasting effects. Whatever they provide, they provide a lot at a time that makes the skin plump. If it’s a brightening facial sheet mask you can see the effect immediately after using it. After using a detoxifying facial mask you will notice visibly smoother skin if your skin pores were not fully cleared before. If you ask me, if you need it or not, I can’t say this is a necessity. But this is an extra boost to facial care that targets particular problems. Use that kind of sheet mask you need the most.
