We all are different so do our skin. There are various types of skin, rich in color to wheatish, sensitive to strong. There are other things like undertone, which is a factor many talked about in their blogs. But the undertone does not play a huge role in how your skin will react under the sun. It all depends on skin pigmentation. Dr. Thomas Fitzpatrick 1975 devised the Fitzpatrick Scale of skin prototypes. This scale tells us how safe is our skin under the Sun, without any sunscreen protection.

UV Ray Affect on Different Skin

There are five types of skin accordingly to Dr. Thomas Fitzpatric. This skin division is basically on skin pigmentation. He classified skin into six different classes.

Two Types of Effects After Exposing to Sun

In the Sun, you may have seen some person reacts like they cannot tolerate it. Some may think they are overdramatic, they stay mostly at home which is why they are reacting. Well, if you stayed at home for a long time, you may feel like that. I have felt like that science after the lockdown. I am getting so used to in-home I don’t even like Sunlight much. That’s not normal, right? But the truth is, some person’s skin is more sensitive than others so they feel a burning sensation under the Sun. Basically under the Sun skin may burn or get tanned.

Tan (Tanned Skin)

When skin started producing melanin under Sun to protect the skin then our skin becomes richer in color. Humans named this tanning. If you think what we don’t like is good for us. We sweat for maintaining body temperature, still, we don’t like to sweat. Just like that if you’re being tanned under Sun that means your skin is protecting you by increasing melanins.

How does melanin work?

Melanin absorbs harmful UV rays of all kinds like A, B & C before it can damage the epidermis layer of our skin. It also absorbs blue light that comes from LED screens.

Burns (Burned Skin)

When UV rays are coming but your skin does not produce melanin at all or very less to protect then it penetrates the skin. UVA penetrates the deep while UVB cannot penetrate that much. It stays on the upper layer of the skin and damages it. And with time it will damage the skin and may cause DNA mutation. So the risk of skin cancer is very high in this case.
